Grand Ol’e Party

Grand Old/New Party

1854: Ripon,Wisconsin: A small group of dedicated abolitionists gathered in a small schoolhouse exclusively to discuss fighting the expansion of slavery, thereby creating a party dedicated to freedom and equal opportunity.

Thomas Jefferson’s Democratic-Republican Party gave incentive to name the new party of freedom of choice. The name was shortened to Republican.

The new Republican Party was committed to the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

July 1854: Jackson, Michigan: The Party was formally organized at a convention attended by thousands of anti-slavery activists.

1856: Philadelphia, PA: The Constitution was written at the first National Republican Convention.

Party of Freedom

1860: The elephant was symbolized as Republican strength in a Thomas Nast cartoon. Republicans advocated “free soil, free speech, free labor”.

Under the leadership of President Abraham Lincoln, the GOP became the Party of the Union: The Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

1864: Republican Convention: 13th Amendment was unanimously passed with few Democrat votes. It was the entire Republican Party that demanded the abolition of slavery. It was the entire Republican Party that accomplished that monumental achievement.

Susan B. Anthony, as most suffragists did, favored the Republican Party’s abolitionists theory; giving birth to the 19th Amendment. As a natural continuation of abolitionism, woman’s rights were on the Republican radar. It was a Republican Senator who wrote and gathered enough Republican support to pass the 19th Amendment. (Personal Note: Ironic isn’t it?)

Party of Prosperity

Decades of prosperity following the Civil war were attributed to GOP commonsense economic policies; Low taxes, regulatory restraint, innovation and follow the rule of law agenda. (Personal Note: Sound familiar?)

McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt and Taft administrations, accompanied with a Republican Congress, cleared the path for economic growth and prosperity.

President Dwight Eisenhower and Congressional Republicans touted the private sector for creativity and wealth creation.

President Ronald Reagan revived the sluggish economy with the same Conservative, common sense economic ideals. He proposed and instituted a bold tax cutting agenda.

Party of the Future

(Personal Note)
The present day GOP needs to speak loudly and boldly of what makes the Republican Party, educating and inspiring all mankind from our proven successful history:
Abolitionists, inclusive of ending slavery and woman’s suffrage. Recognize proudly our monumental achievements and recognize Party leaders such as Martin Luther King. Encouragement not entitlement: Support note degradation.

State Level:
Thirty (30) Governors are effectively governing their respective states by empowering the people and applying the original GOP policies.

National Level:
The Party is dedicated to afford Americans more choices in all facets of their lives and rid them of intrusive overreach of federal bureaucracy.

Core Principles:

  1. Freedoms as described in the Constitution
  2. Non- intrusive government
  3. Government by and for the people
  4. State’s Rights
  5. The United States is a Republic- we need to ensure that is

    how we are governing.
